Thunevin-Calvet 2015 Maury Vin Doux Naturel

‘Vins Doux Naturels’ (VDNs) or naturally sweet wines, dates to the 13th century and is rooted in the South of France. Similar to Port, VDNs are fortified with a neutral grape spirit before fermentation is complete, retaining some sugar perceived as sweetness. This Domaine was born in 2001 with the collaboration of two winegrowers: Jean-Luc Thunevin and Jean-Roger Calvet. However, it is quite rare to stumble upon an older vintage of VDNs, from the village of Maury. This offering from 2015 is made from 100% Grenache, bursting deep flavours of black cherry, blueberry, purple plum and blackcurrant with a hint of coffee, roasted almonds and sweet chocolate. Drink now or age for another 100 years.
