The Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855 has always been a very important and historic moment for the wine region of Bordeaux. Brokers from the wine industry ranked the wines according to a Chateau’s reputation and trading price, from First to Fifth Growths (crus). This isn’t a guarantee of quality but certainly a very impressive guideline to follow and have some fun with. In this classification system, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou, in Saint-Julien, is rated as a Second Growth. However, the vines for La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou are located further inland, from a tiny plot the family also owns. This wine showcases the estate’s original expression, blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It exhibits notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis and raspberry with a hint of tobacco, vanilla and espresso. Drink between: 2025-2038
