Halfway between Florence and Siena, Isole e Olena (pronounced EE-zol-ay ay oh-LAY-na) are the names of the two hamlets that surround the families 800-acre estate, in the western part of Chianti Classico. About 130 people lived in these two residential hamlets, forming a self-sufficient community that worked the land and produced the wine. Isole e Olena officially came into being in 1956, when Francesco De Marchi decided to unite the whole area. This Chianti Classico is full of intensity, that’s extremely polished and always consistent every vintage. You’ll taste an explosion of baked Mediterranean herbs and scented purple flowers, with black plum, dried cherry, blackberry and licorice.
