Established in 1948, this small family-run winery lies amongst choice vineyards on the slopes of La Morra. This is one of the 11 prestigious towns in Piedmont, where the infamous Barolo wine is produced. In the late 1970s, real change came to Altare and Barolo as a whole, when Elio Altare sought to enhance the viability of grape growing and wine production, inspired by the successes of his friend Angelo Gaja. This offering from Elio stems from the Cerretta Cru and is labelled as a ‘Riserva’. This Cru surrounds the hamlet of Cerretta on every side, pointing therefore in every direction. It’s fresh and elegant but wrapped in a tight knit of absolute power. You’ll taste a mix of blackberry, acai, elderberry, fig, black plum, spicy tobacco and licorice. Drink between: 2024-2044
