This is a wonderfully rich white made by Berenice Lurton, from younger vines at Chateau Climens in Barsac, Bordeaux. This wine region lies within Sauternes, which is one of the most infamous wine regions in the world for sweet dessert wine. However, most producers will also make a dry white which is why this wine is labeled as a ‘Vin Blanc Sec’. Asphodele (the nickname of this white) is the French name for a splendid wild lily with white flowers, which abounds on calcareous terrain. This wine is made from 100% Semillon and is aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks for eight months. It gives an impression of morning dew freshness, carrying flavours of fresh lemon, yellow peach, beeswax and chamomile with a strong backbone.
