The Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855 has always been a very important and historic moment for the wine region of Bordeaux. Brokers from the wine industry ranked the wines according to a Chateau’s reputation and trading price, from First to Fifth Growths (crus). This isn’t a guarantee of quality but certainly a very impressive guideline to follow and have some fun with. In this classification system, Chateau Beychevelle, in Saint-Julien, is rated as a Fourth Growth. But all these iconic Chateaus will release a wine labelled as their ‘great second wine’. For Chateau Beychevelle, this wine is called Amiral de Beychevelle. This offering is an absolute gem blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It exhibits notes of blueberry, currant, raspberry and vanilla infused cherries, with hints of dark chocolate and black licorice. Drink between: 2023-2034
