Sicily is Italy’s southernmost wine region and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The region has made an impressive movement to reverse their reputation and is now one of Italy’s most promising and interesting areas. Starting in 1973, Mandrarossa wines have been part of this movement and the proof is in the bottle. Nero d’Avola is the most important indigenous grape varietal. It is known for its purity of black cherry and prune and is best expressed with interesting cuisine.
